Ambassador Ma Keqing presents credentials to Philippine President

Ambassador Ma Keqing presented credentials to Philippine President Benigno Aquino III in Manila on Jan. 26.

During the talk following the presentation of the credentials, President Aquino extended welcome to Ma as the new Chinese ambassador and asked her to convey his greetings to Chinese President Hu Jintao.

President Aquino told Ma that the Philippine government had designated for the first time in the country the Chinese Lunar New Year as a special non-working day, which demonstrates the Chinese culture has already been popular with the Filipinos.

President Aquino highly praised the steady development of bilateral relations and expressed the hope that the Chinese side would actively implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries during his visit to China last year to continuously push ahead with cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Ma also conveyed the greetings from President Hu Jintao to Aquino as well as the good-will wishes of the Chinese government and people to their counterparts in the Philippines.

Ambassador Ma said the Sino-Philippine friendship has a long history. Bilateral relations have recorded healthy and steady development since the two countries forged diplomatic relations in 1975. In the new era of globalisation, all countries rely on each other. Indepth cooperation and expanded exchanges should be embodied in further promoting the relations between China and the Philippines.

The two sides should properly solve their disputes with wisdom, courage and foresight, Ma said, adding the Chinese side would like to work with the Philippine side to jointly implement the consensus of heads of the two states and make Sino-Philippine relations of strategic cooperation better and stronger.

President Aquino also expressed the belief that both countries have sincerity and determination in solving the disputes, saying so long as the two sides make concerted efforts, they must find a solution.

Ambassador Ma also presented wreath to the Monument of the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal in Rizal Park.

Ambassador Ma arrived in Manila on Jan. 15.
