Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening!

I feel pleased and honored to attend the Launching Ceremony of the Allied Bank China UnionPay Credit Card. Just Five days ago, the world was celebrating Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year on the same day. I'm glad to witness today the marriage between Allied Bank and China Unionpay. My congratulations first go to Dr. Lucio Tan and Allied Banking Corporation. I appreciate your vision and wisdom to enhance your business ties with China by forging a partnership with China UnionPay, which has 2.1 billion domestic card holders and a service network available in 83 countries and regions.  I would also like to congratulate China UnionPay, you will enjoy more popularity in the Philippines through joint efforts with Allied Bank.

China is emerging as a powerhouse of the global economy. When the financial tsunami raged throughout the world last year, China successfully managed to weather the crisis with a satisfactory economic growth rate at 8.7%. Many analysts predict that Chinese economy will grow more vigorously in the year of 2010.

Despite the crisis, our bilateral trade volume stood at 20.5 billion US dollars in 2009. The number of Filipino tourists visiting China reached 750,000, making the Philippines China's 7th biggest source of tourists; Meanwhile China is the 4th largest as well as the fastest growing source of tourists to the Philippines. Last year, visitors from Mainland China to this country topped a record 220,000, registering a growth rate of 39% over the year of 2008. China-ASEAN Free Trade Area has also been fully established since January this year. As our bilateral economic and trade relations are booming and personnel exchanges are flourishing, I'm glad to see China UnionPay and Allied Banking Corporation has grasped this golden opportunity to equip their valued customers, especially Filipino UnionPay cardholders traveling within the region with more convenience and better service.  I am also confident that cooperation between UnionPay and Allied Bank will be conductive to bilateral and regional financial cooperation and overall friendly relationship between our two countries at large.

Last but not least, I wish everyone present today a happy and prosperous year of Tiger.

My warmest congratulations to you all!

Thank you very much!
