17 Imprisoned Chinese Fishermen Leave for Home

On April 14, 2006, the 17 imprisoned Chinese fishermen were released and left for China by China Southern Airlines. The fishermen were caught and accused of poaching in the Philippine territorial water near Palawan in January 2004. At the frequent requests of the Chinese Embassy, the Philippine authorities concerned decided to pardon them on humanitarian basis so that they could be united with their families in Hainan, China.

The Chinese Embassy would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to the Philippine Government for the early release of the fishermen and, at the same time, warn any Chinese nationals who come to the Philippines not to engage in any illegal activities.
