Chinese Government Decided to Donate US$ 1 Million to the Philippines

The Chinese Government and people are deeply concern about the severe landslide occurred in Southern Leyte of the Philippines, which has caused great loss of lives and property. On February 18, 2006, the Chinese Government decided to donate US$ 1 million to the Philippines to assist the relief efforts of the Philippine Government and rehabilitation of landslide area in Southern Leyte. The US$ 1 million includes US$ 250,000 in cash and US$ 750,000 material assistance. The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines will coordinate with the Philippine Government authorities concerned for early handover of the above mentioned donation, and do everything possible to support relief efforts of the Philippine Government.

H.E. Li Jinjun, Ambassador of China, expressed that the Chinese assistance embodies the friendly sentiments of the Chinese Government and people to the Philippine Government and people. We hope that the people in the inflicted area will overcome the difficulties and rehabilitate their homeland at an early date with the support of the Philippine Government and people as well as the concern and assistance from the international community.
