Reception Hosted by Ambassador Li Jinjun on the Occasion of his Assumption of Office

On December 16, 2005, H.E. Li Jinjun hosted a grand reception on the occasion of his assumption of office. Over 600 guests from the Philippine government, the Congress, the business circle, the media, the Chinese community and the diplomatic corps were present.

In his remarks, Amb. Li said that he was greatly honored and very pleased to be appointed the 11th Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of the Philippines. He also elaborated on the traditional Sino-Philippine friendship and spoke highly of the progress of bilateral ties in recent year. He pointed out that President Hu Jintao and President Arroyo had made successful state visits to each in the past two years, and they agreed to forge strategic cooperative relations for peace and development, setting guidance to the future development of bilateral ties.

He stressed that bilateral trade and economic cooperation between China and the Philippines had also been developing rapidly. Two-way trade volume increased from only US$ 65 million in 1975 to US$ 13.3 billion in 2004, increasing more than 200 times. Bilateral trade was expected to reach US$ 17 billion this year. He also mentioned the successful cooperation between the two countries in North Rail project, South China Sea exploration, defense and security consultation, tourism, cultural, sports, regional and international affairs.

Amb. Li believed that China and the Philippines had great potential in mutually beneficial cooperation and he would do his best to push bilateral cooperation in various fields forward. He was convinced that with the concerted efforts of both governments and peoples, the traditional friendship would bear new fruits, and bilateral ties would embark on higher stages.
