On 4 June 2020, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines donates 5,000 pieces of “Friendship Bag” to Manila citizens through Manila city government. The turnover ceremony was graced by Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian and Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno together with Secretary to the Mayor Bernardito C. Ang, FFCCCII President Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong and Vice President Dr. Cecilio Pedro.

Ambassador Huang said many local families were severely affected by the pandemic. In light of this, the Chinese Embassy in partnership with FFCCCII has prepared 5,000 pieces of “Friendship Bag” containing essential living supplies such as rice and canned sardines to distribute to those in need so as to help them get through the difficulties. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, China and the Philippines have helped and supported each other to build a closer partnership through anti-pandemic cooperation. The Chinese Embassy will work together with the Philippine people to strive for an early victory over the pandemic.

Mayor Moreno expressed thanks to the Chinese Embassy for its continued support for the Manila people out of goodwill, and believed those supplies would be of great help for those families in need.

Ambassador Huang also shared China’s experiences on resumption of work and production with Mayor Moreno. Mayor Moreno hoped both sides could strengthen such exchanges for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

With an aim to supporting the Philippines’ efforts to tackle the challenge of COVID-19, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines, together with its Consulates General in Cebu, Davao and the Consulate in Laoag, are donating supplies of daily necessities to the local people with a combined value of about 17.5 million pesos.
