Chinese Embassy Celebrates Chinese New Year and Ambassador Huang Xilian's Assumption of Office

On 15 January 2020, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China hosted a reception in celebration of  the Chinese New Year and Ambassador Huang Xilian's assumption of office at the Shangri-La Hotel Makati. Among the dignitaries present during the event were Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Deputy Speaker Evelina G. Escudero, Deputy Speaker Rosemarie Arenas, BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, Chief of Presidential Protocol Robert Borje, Philippine Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Joel Garcia, Chinese Coast Guard Commandant Major General Wang Zhongcai, Special Envoy of the President to China Jamie Cruz, Ramon T. Tulfo, William Lima, Wallie Lee, Chen Yong, members of the diplomatic corp and leaders of the Chinese-Filipino community.

                                                                                    

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Huang Xilian expressed his gratitude to his Philippine friends for awarding him a grand entry since his arrival as the new Chinese Ambassador.

                                                                                 

He said that the year 2019 witnessed the sustained betterment and growth of China-Philippines relations which was set by the meeting of President Duterte and President Xi. The ambassador also said that China is willing to work with the Philippines to synergize the BRI and the Build, Build, Build Plan and highlighted the steady progress of the Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on South China Sea (BCM) and the consultation on the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea.

                                                                            

He also mentioned the recent visit of the Chinese Coast Guard is the first in history and that the visit is meant to convey the message of friendship, cooperation and goodwill. The ambassador said that without the support and contributions of their Philippine friends and the Chinese community in the Philippines, the progress could not have been achieved.

                                                                              

Furthermore, Ambassador Huang mentioned that 2019 marked the year of China's 70th founding anniversary, which highlighted the remarkable development and progress in China. The ambassador expressed that in 2020, China aims to meet its first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and also eradicate extreme poverty. 2020 also marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Philippines and called on both countries to work towards greater development and for sustained growth of bilateral ties.

 

The celebration included a video presentation on China-Philippines relations and the ambassador's activities since his arrival, the Chinese communities in the Philippines performanced singing, dancing and wushu and the Confucius Institute demonstrated Chinese New Year customs and traditions.
