Ambassador Huang: Macau's return is a successful practice of the "one country, two systems"
On December 16, 2019, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines hosted a reception at the Grand Hyatt Manila Hotel to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Macau's return to the Motherland.
Present during the event are Undersecretary Marvin Gatpayat and George Apacible of the Presidential Communications Office of the Philippines,  Philippine and Chinese media executives, editors, journalists, columnists, famous bloggers and our correspondents in the Philippines.
In his speech, Ambassador Huang Xilian said that not long ago, we had just successfully celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. On December 20, we will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Macao's Return to Motherland.
As demonstrated in the photo exhibition, Macao SAR has achieved rapid economic growth, steadily improved people's livelihood, and enjoyed social harmony, embarking on a journey of unity, stability and prosperity since its return. Last year, Macao's per capita GDP reached 83,000 US dollars, ranking among the top in the world. Macau is one of the safest cities and top tourist destinations in the world, attracting 36 million tourists last year. Macao passport holders can travel to 144 countries and regions visa-free or with visa-upon-arrival, compared with only three such destinations at the beginning of its return to the motherland.
Ambassador Huang emphasized that with the "Belt and Road" initiative and the further advancement of the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Macao's foreign exchanges will face more opportunities. All the above shows that "One Country, Two Systems" is successful and right in Macao Special Administrative Region.
The Chinese Embassy also held a photo exhibition event to show the development of Macau in the past 20 years.
