The Chinese Embassy hosted reception for the 2019 Chinese Government Scholarship Awardees

On August 22, 2019, the Chinese Embassy hosted a reception for the 2019 Chinese Government Scholarship Awardees. Around eighty (80) awardees and representatives including Congressman Francisco B. Benitez and President Huang Duanming of the Philippine Chinese Education Research Center attended.


In his opening remarks, DCM and Minister Counsellor Tan Qingsheng mentioned the major strides China-Philippine bilateral relations has made in recent years.

"China and the Philippines are close neighbors. In the past three years, under the strategic guidance of our leaders, China-Philippines relations have witnessed turnaround, consolidation and elevation, and entered a new golden age. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is going to China in a few days, embracing his fifth visit to China . We have every reason to expect more tangible outcomes would be delivered through the visit."

Quoting the ancient Chinese saying, "amity between the people holds the key to state-to-state relations," Tan Qingsheng expressed the hope that the great potential for strengthening exchanges between the youth and academic institutions of the two countries would be further unleashed. He also encouraged the scholars to take full advantage of the scholarship, and have a smooth and pleasant stay in China.


After his speech, officials of Chinese Embassy introduced the Chinese Government Scholarship program and presented a country profile of China. Supplementing these, Trina Victoria Dino,who was a 2018 Chinese Government Scholarship Awardee, shared her experience of studying in China inspiring fellow scholars.

Eighty (80) Filipinos have been chosen to receive the 2019 Chinese Government Scholarship. They will study subjects such as International Relations, Corporate Management, Clinical Medicine, Engineering Management and Chinese Language for undergraduate, master's and doctorate degrees.
