The Chinese Embassy donates 10 million pesos aid for quake-hit Batanes


On August 9, 2019, the Chinese Embassy turned over ten million pesos for the relief and rehabilitation of earthquake stricken Batanes to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) at the DILG Secretary Office. Present during the event was Ambassador Zhao Jianhua of the People's Republic of China, Governor Cayco Malou of  Batanes Province and DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, who received the donation on behalf of the victims.


Amb. Zhao in his opening remarks expressed his deepest sympathies to those Filipino friends affected by the earthquakes which hit the Batanes of the Philippines recently. Amb. Zhao said that the Chinese side looks forward to the aid lending more strength to the disaster relief efforts on the Philippine side to overcome the difficulties and help the affected people restore their normal livelihood at an earliest date. Amb. Zhao stressed that Chinese government and people are ready to further advance cooperation in disaster prevention, disaster rehabilitation with the Philippine side, as he also assured that "China will continue to be a good friend, a good neighbor, and a close relative of the Filipino people."


Speaking for the Philippine government, Secretary Año expressed sincere appreciation to China's goodwill and generosity. Año also said that as the famous Chinese Proverbs goes, "Time of adversity reveal true friends". History has proven that China has displayed noting but sincere concern and genuine empathy for the plight of Filipinos in many occasions. This turnover will further emblazon the brotherhood between our two countries and our friendship will further strengthen in the days to come.
