The Chinese Embassy hosts a Christmas Party for media corps

On 13 December 2018, the Chinese Embassy hosted a dinner reception at Makati Shangri-La Hotel for the media in celebration of the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

Nearly 200 guests attended the reception. Among the dignitaries who attended the event are PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, PCOO Undersecretary for Good Governance George Apacible, and Assistant Secretary for Media Accreditation and Relations Office Florentino Loyola Jr.  together with local Filipino and Chinese journalists from different news agencies such as the Philippine Star, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manila Bulletin, Manila Times, Manila Standard, Business Mirror, Business Insight, PTV4, RTVM, Philippine News Agency, ABS-CBN, GMA, TV5, DWIZ, Filipino Chinese newspapers and other representatives of Manila bureaus of Chinese resident journalists in Manila.

Opening the event, the Chinese Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires Ad Interim Tan Qingsheng gave his well wishes to the media and reiterated the milestone achievements in China-Philippines relations this 2018 and China's commitment to partnering for development with the Philippines in the years to come.

"This year marks a great milestone of China-Philippines relations. The Chinese President Xi Jinping made a successful state visit to your great country in November, the first of its kind in 13 years… Proceeding from the spirit of mutual respect, sincerity, equality, mutual benefit, and win-win cooperation, our two leaders decided to upgrade our bilateral ties to a relationship of comprehensive strategic cooperation, charting a course for this great partnership.  China reaffirmed its commitment to support President Duterte's endeavor in nation building and improving the people's well-being.  President Xi underlined that we Chinese will do all what we can to add strength to future development of the Philippines," said Tan.

The CDA also highlighted the 40th Anniversary of China's adoption of reform and opening-up policies and reiterated China's dedication to rendering support to future development of the Philippines.

"The Year 2018 also means a lot to China. This year marks the 40th Anniversary of China's adoption of reform and opening-up policy. One important lesson we have learned from our development for the past four decades is that development will not be achieved by invasion, colonization, or trade wars.  Development can only be achieved through reform and opening-up.  Development can only be achieved by international trade and economic globalization. Development can only be achieved by consultation and collaboration for shared benefits. While developing itself, China won't stay shut behind a closed door, rather always standing ready to share with other countries, the Philippines included," Tan said.

Addressing the media, CDA Tan also recognized importance in their role in promoting and improving China-Philippines  relations.

"The Embassy will continue to work with our media friends to present to the Philippine people a true and complete picture of China, so as to enable the Philippine people to better understand China, promote trust and amity between our two countries, and nurture a favorable atmosphere for the China-Philippines relationship to grow from strength to strength, and last from generation to generation," he concluded.

The night was also filled with enjoyment and holiday spirit as guests were treated to a fantastic array of phenomenal food and a spectacular stage show. They also enjoyed picture gallery about China-Philippines relations and video documentary on China's achievements in its development.
