China and the Philippines Meeting on Human Rights Affairs

On 8 May 2017, H.E. Ma Zhaoxu, Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Office at the Geneva and Other International Organization in Switzerland, met with the Honorable Alan Peter Cayetano, Chairman of Philippines' Senate Committee on Foreign Relations  on the sidelines of the 27th Session of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Both sides exchanged views on enhancing China-Philippine cooperation on international human rights affairs.

In his remarks at the 27th Session of UPR of the UNHRC, Ambassador Ma spoke highly of the efforts and achievements made by the Philippines in eleminating poverty, promoting socio-economic development and improvement and protection of human rights. Ambassador Ma stressed, the China side supports President Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine government in combating drug-related crimes in accordance with law. We hope that the international community can respect the judicial sovereignty of the Philippines and support its endeavour in fighting against drug-related crimes through cooperation.
