A delegation led by Secretary-General Yang Xiuping of ASEAN-China Center(ACC) visited the Philippines on February 6-9, 2017. During the visit, the delegation met with Hon. Enrique A. Manalo, Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Ma Helen De la Vega, Assistant Secretary for Asean Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Ramon Lopez, Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, Ms. Alma Jemenez, Undersecretary of the Department of Tourism, and Ms Ana Maria P.Banaag, Assistance Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office respectively.
In the meetings, SecGen Yang Xiuping highlighted the rich outcomes of China-ASEAN cooperation in recent years, and briefed the Philippine side on the history, mandate, and priority tasks of ACC. SecGen Yang said that the Philippines has taken ASEAN chairmanship in 2017, which also marks the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN and China-ASEAN Year of Tourism Cooperation. In this important year, ACC is looking forward to strengthening communications and exchanges with the Philippine side and jointly planning and implementing cooperation programs, so as to make greater contributions to the deepening of China-ASEAN relations and China-Philippine relations.
The Philippine officials warmly welcomed SecGen Yang and her delegation, and applauded the unique role the ACC plays as well as its fruitful achievements. They introduced the working plans of their respective departments during the Philippines' chairmanship of ASEAN and expressed that they will continue to support ACC and promote the exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between ASEAN and China in the fields of politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, information and people-to-people etc., with a view to laying a more solid foundation for the enduring development of China-ASEAN and China-Philippines relations.
