China to Fund Projects of Poverty Relief and People's Livelihood in the Philippines
On 16 December 2016, H.E. Zhao Jianhua, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of the Philippines, signed an Memorandum of Understanding with Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo of the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on cooperation programs between the Chinese Embassy and DSWD related to the livelihood projects in Davao and other regions.
The Chinese Embassy committed to provide an amount of 100 million pesos to the DSWD for the latter's future livelihood programs and projects such as poverty relief and disaster response, in the purpose of improving the living standard of the Filipinos in the most poverty-stricken areas, especially the Davao region. Secretary Taguiwalo, on behalf of the Philippine government, expressed sincere appreciation to the generosity of the Chinese side and stressed that China is a friend indeed, who never attaches additional conditions to support the Philippines in its endeavor to make its people better off. This stands testimony to the earnest amity of the Chinese government and people to the Philippine people, and the great friendship between China and the Philippines.
