Celebration of the 41st Anniversary of China-Philippines Diplomatic Relations and 15th China-Philippines Friendship Day
2016/06/11

On June 9, 2016, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China celebrated the 41st Anniversary of China-Philippines Diplomatic Relations and the 15th  Chinese-Filipino Friendship Day in the Cultural Center of the Philippines, together with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the  Federation of Filipino-Chinese Associations of the Philippines, Inc. (FFCAP).

H.E. Ambassador Zhao Jianhua led the celebration as he delivered the opening speech and traced back the strong traditional relationship of Philippine-China relations through the story of Zheng He. Ambassador Zhao pointed out that a good neighbor is better than a far-off relative.  As long as China and the Philippines treat each other with sincerity, follow the spirit of seeking common ground while shelving differences, there is no obstacle that we cannot surmount, nor dispute that we cannot resolve. It is hoped that the new government of the Philippines can work with China towards the same direction, properly deal with relevant disputes, put differences under effective management and control, and bring the bilateral relations back to the track of sound and comprehensive development to serve the interests of our two peoples.

Mr. Enrique Manalo, Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, co-organizer of the event gave affirmation that the Phil-China friendship has developed through thousands of years' trade, cultural exchanges and inter-marriages between the  two peoples. Based on mutual respect and beneficial cooperation, Mr. Manalo said that the relationship will move forward to healthier development despite its ups and downs.

Also in presence was Mr. Salvador Panelo, incoming spokesperson for the President-Elect Duterte. Mr. Panelo said that the Philippines and China are close neighbors and natural friends and partners. The Duterte administration will adopt a friendly policy toward China, and hopes to start talks with Chinese officials soon to improve the bilateral relationship and make the two peoples closer.

Other dignitaries attending the event included President of the FFCAP Mr. Stephen Techico,  Former first lady and Congresswoman to the Second District of Ilocos Norte Mrs. Imelda Marcos, and Mr. Qu Feng, Head of Delegation of the Nanjing Performing Arts Group.

The Nanjing Performing Arts Group left the guests in awe with Chinese dances, songs, magic and acrobatic shows. Together with them were Filipino artists who performed traditional songs and dances.
