Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali of Bangladesh

On November 18, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali of Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Wang Yi expressed that the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) not only maps out a grand blueprint for China's future development, but also injects strong impetus in developing China's relations with other countries and deepening solidarity and cooperation with Bangladesh and other developing countries. China is willing to strengthen strategic mutual trust with Bangladesh and continue the mutual support on issues regarding each other's core interests and major concerns. The "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping is the most popular international public product in the world today. It has been enshrined into the CPC Constitution, showing that China will unswervingly promote the "Belt and Road" initiative in a long term. China is willing to work with Bangladesh to accelerate the "Belt and Road" cooperation, advance the construction of Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, and explore cooperation in ocean and other areas based on the spirit of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.

Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali warmly congratulated on the complete success of the 19th CPC National Congress and Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and expressed Bangladesh admired China's significant achievements in its development. Lauding China's increasingly important role in international affairs, he believed that China will surely achieve the grand goals set at the 19th CPC National Congress. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said that Bangladesh regards the relationship with China as an important pillar of its foreign relations and is willing to further consolidate mutual trust and mutual support between both sides, and deepen the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. Bangladesh adheres to the one-China policy and firmly supports China on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns. Bangladesh appreciates China for its support and assistance in the development of Bangladesh and is willing to integrate development strategies with China under the framework of the "Belt and Road", deepen practical cooperation, and promote the construction of Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, so as to continuously enrich the connotation of bilateral relations.

Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said that the issue of the Rohingya people in the Rakhine state of Myanmar is a problem left over from history. For some time, a large number of the Rohingya people have entered the territory of Bangladesh to avoid chaos. Bangladesh regards Myanmar as its important neighboring country, hopes to peacefully coexist with Myanmar and is willing to carry out bilateral negotiation on the issue of the Rohingya people. Recently, both sides have reached a consensus on the repatriation agreement. Bangladesh thanks China for providing humanitarian assistance in the first time since the outbreak of the issue, appreciates China's stance on this issue, and hopes China will continuously play an important role in pushing for a proper settlement of the issue.

Wang Yi said that China appreciates Bangladesh for overcoming its own difficulties and providing timely humanitarian assistance for refugees who entered Bangladesh. China consistently advocates that the issue of the Rohingya people should be solved by Bangladesh and Myanmar through dialogue and negotiations. Bangladesh and Myanmar are close neighbors and good friends of China. China welcomes the recent several rounds of interactions of the two countries and the repatriation agreement which is expected to be signed. Only accepted by countries directly concerned can the agreement be enforceable and sustainable, and gain understanding and support from all walks of life in the countries directly concerned. The international community should create a sound environment for Bangladesh-Myanmar consultation. And China is also willing to continuously provide assistance and convenience for settlement of the issue at an early date according to the needs of countries directly concerned.
