  刘大使致辞全文如下:

  H. E. Vice President Noli de Castro

  Honorable Mayor Alfredo Lim,

  Honorable Deputy Secretary Eduardo Jarque,

  Vice Chairman Madam Wu Youying,

  Dr. Alfonso Uy,

  Distinguished guests,

  Ladies and Gentlemen,

It’s a great pleasure to be invited to the opening ceremony of “Shanghai 360º Photo Exhibit”. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I would like to convey my warmest congratulations to the event, and sincere gratitude to the distinguished guests both from China and the Philippines for coming here today.

  Ladies and Gentlemen,

Shanghai, the most developed and well-managed metropolitan in China, is the symbol of modernity, prosperity, and from some perspective, the future of China. On your way from the Pudong airport to downtown Shanghai, the hustle and bustle of the city traffic and rocketing skyscrapers will surely remind you of other mega cities, like London, New York or Paris. In the evening, if you visit pubs or bars at Xintiandi or Xujiahui, you can savour the city’s dynamism and cultural diversities. I believe this photo exhibit today could open the window for you to understand more about a real Shanghai.

Next year in May, Shanghai will be presenting the World Expo, the one ever sponsored by a developing country. World Expos are galleries of human inspirations, imagination and wisdom. With "Better City, Better Life" as the theme, Shanghai Expo 2010 hopes to explore an eco-friendly, sustainable and harmonious way of urban living. Today’s photo exhibit will render you the temptation to explore Shanghai, a city of dreams.

  Ladies and Gentlemen,

In 2005, I was in the Chinese delegation to Aichi World Expo in Japan. The Philippine Pavilion there turned out to be a brilliant success. On the theme “USBONG” or the seeds of life, the splendid Philippine culture was demonstrated to its full beauty and strength. While sharing a lot of similarities, Chinese and Philippine cultures demonstrate themselves in diversified ways. Acknowledging cultural interaction as its mission, Shanghai Expo could be a superb platform for us to present our countries’ splendor to each other. I’m sure that your Pavilion in the Shanghai Expo will prove to be an even greater success.

To end my remarks, I would like to offer my gratitude to the sponsors and best wishes for a successful exhibit.

  Thank you.
